Youtheatre Summer Programs for 2012

In an effort to accommodate a variety of schedules we have included one, two and three-week workshops in our summer program.  Check your calendar and see when you can join us, and please note age requirements to be sure the program is a good fit. Enrollment is limited in most workshops; minimum enrollment required for some workshops.

Workshop space is limited, and space will be reserved in the order that applications with deposits are received.  Please note that deposits are not refundable after April 13, 2012; balance of tuition is due one month prior to the start of each session. For tuition assistance and scholarship information, please e-mail audrey@triarts.net. Please note that the deadline for financial assistance applications is May 4, 2012.

Special Spring Workshop: Legends of Show Biz
Sat. March 31, Sun. April 15, Sat. April 21, Sat. April 28, (plus individual time to be scheduled based on students' schedules)
Location: Bok Gallery, 1pm – 5pm / Ages 8 – 18
Director: Michael Berkeley
Rate: $200

Focusing on the greatest legends of screen and stage, this workshop will help students learn how to perform with pizzazz while learning from some of the greatest performers in the history of show business. The workshop will include individual vocal coaching time and will culminate with a showcase for parents on the final day.

 

3-Week Musical Theatre Performance Workshop: Imagine That!
June 20th – July 11th / Monday – Friday 10am – 3pm / Ages 8 – 18
Location: Sharon Center School / Director: Michael Berkeley
Rate for 3 weeks: $685

Work with TriArts Artistic Director Michael Berkeley in a musical theatre performance workshop that will develop students' acting, singing and dancing skills while rehearsing Michael's original musical Imagine That!, culminating in a performance on TriArts main stage.

 

3-Week Musical Theatre Performance Workshop: Willy Wonka, Jr.
July 30th – August 17th / Monday – Friday 10am – 5pm / Ages 8 – 18
Location: Sharon Center School & Bok Gallery / Director: Heather Holohan
Rate for 3 weeks: $825

Experience the fun, the challenge, the excitement of a musical theatre performance workshop that will culminate in a production of Willy Wonka Jr. on TriArts main stage. The class will also attend TriArts production of The Sound of Music and have a talkback with the actors after the show.

 

Creative Dramatics
July 9th – 20th / Monday – Friday 9:30am – 12pm / Ages 5 – 7
Location: Bok Gallery / Instructor: Jill Fay
Rate for 2 Week: $340

Our youngest aspiring actors will explore the performing arts in a relaxed and fun environment through theatre games, singing, storytelling and creative movement. Parents are invited to a brief showcase on the final day.

 

Monday Night Acting Class
July 16th, 23rd, 30th, August 6th / Mondays 6pm – 8pm / Ages 13 – 18
Location: Bok Gallery / Instructor: Betsy Howie
Rate: $90 (or $25/class)

Explore acting technique and character development through movement, finding your action in a scene, working with props, entrances and exits, character research, and interpreting text. Scene work will include working on scenes with a partner and  individual monologues.

 

Wicked Workshop*
July 16th – 20th / Monday – Friday 10am – 12:30pm / Ages 8 – 18
Location: Sharon Center School / Instructor: Dan Koch
Rate for 1 Week: $150

Explore the Broadway sensation Wicked in depth – study the characters, the story, and the songs. Learn the techniques of performing numbers from the show.

 

Broadway Rocks*
July 16th – 20th / Monday – Friday 1pm – 3:30pm / Ages 8 – 18
Location: Sharon Center School / Instructor: Dan Koch
Rate for 1 Week: $150

Explore Broadway's rock musicals (Hair, Hairspray, Rock of Ages, Grease, Rent, Jesus Christ Superstar, American Idiot) while developing  contemporary rock performance styles.

 

"glee" Club
July 23rd – 27th / Monday – Friday 10am – 1pm / Ages 8 – 16
Location: Sharon Center School / Instructor: Joshua Stone
Rate for 1 Week: $175

Work with composer Joshua Stone and create your own original mash-ups of pop songs a la Glee, using material from Ellington to Beetles to Bieber!

 

Grumbling Gryphons
August 6th – 10th / Monday – Friday 10am – 12:30pm / Ages 6 – 12
Location: Sharon Center School / Instructor: Leslie Elias
Rate for 1 Week: $150

Leslie Elias, artistic director of the Grumbling Gryphons Traveling Children's Theater, leads this workshop exploring drama through improvisation, music, art, movement, storytelling, mask making and more. At the end of the workshop, students will have the opportunity to perform for their parents.

 

Theatre Sampler
August 11th / Saturday 12pm – 5pm / Ages 8 – adult
Location: TriArts / Instructors: Michael Berkeley, Dylan Baker, Deann Simmons Halper, Wanda Houston, Michael Brown, Amber Cameron, others TBA 
Rate: $20/class or $85 for full day (five classes)

Spend an hour or spend the day "sampling" different theatre classes, including Auditioning Without Fear, Stage Combat, Acting Through Masks, Breaking Into Show Business, Juggling, Making It Count: Singing From The Heart, Gospel Singing, 5-6-7-8 Kicks! and more! 
Make it a family day – parents are encouraged to sign up as well!

 

The Sound of Music: Behind The Scenes
August 15th / Wednesday 12pm – 5:30pm / Ages 8 – adult
Location: TriArts / Instructors: Michael Berkeley
Rate: $35 kids/students / $45 adults (includes ticket)

This one-day intensive will explore the story, songs, and characters of The Sound of Music. Attend the matinee performance and meet with the cast for a talkback afterwards and backstage tour. Parents are encouraged to sign up as well!

 

Disney Heroines
August 20th – 24th / Monday – Friday 10am – 12:30pm / Ages 8 – 13
Location: Bok Gallery / Instructor: Michael Berkeley
Rate for 1 Week: $150

Belle, Mulan, Ariel, Jasmine, Pocahontas, Mary Poppins… Disney is full of heroines and princesses.  Spend a week immersed in their worlds – become your favorite character while developing your performing skills.
