TriArts Sharon Playhouse welcomes summer with one hot show. "The Wedding Singer" ties the knot around a big happy hit. This stage production outshines the movie tenfold.

John Simpkins directs this production not only with an eye for detail, but as if it's a jig-saw puzzle where everything has to fit perfectly  and it does. That's not so easy to do with a large cast and so many set and costume changes. However, set after set, number after number slides into place seamlessly.

In particular, MK Lawson's choreography is one of the stars of the show. How she got so many non-Equity hoofers to dance like the pros is pretty impressive. Of course, the dancers and vocalists can count on Michael Berkeley as music director. Having that kind of constant is a huge advantage.

For those of you who are not familiar with the plot of "The Wedding Singer," this is the story of Robbie Hart, a wedding singer who is left standing at the altar on his wedding day. His intended wife, Linda, decided at the last minute that she wasn't ready to settle down. As Robbie tries to deal with rejection, Julia, a waitress at weddings, cheers him on. She's engaged to be married to money-hungry womanizer Glen Guglia. That would make Julia, Julia Guglia, an ongoing joke in the play.

The talent pool for non-Equity actors seems to be wide-open in Connecticut. Here's another playbill you'll want to hold onto because some of these names are destined for stardom. Rich Krakowski as Robbie Hart is a most likeable actor in this role. Krakowski drenches Robbie in naiveté, and it is most becoming.

Krakowski's natural charm and strong vocals don't hurt either. What works best in this romantic comedy is that Krakowski and Caitlyn Caughell act as though they really love each other. Caughell is the perfect sweetheart. Her performance is realistic and engaging.

Lauren Calhoun as Holly makes a big splash in the show with her "Flashdance" moment. Hotter than the 90-degree weekend, she performs a sexy, steamy dance routine. However, when she pulls a lever and gets showered on stage, reminiscent of the water-chair dance in "Flashdance," the audience goes crazy. This woman can dance.

Jordan Stanley also delivered a standout performance as George, one of the guys in Robbie's wedding band. Stanley creates such a colorful character that just when you forget he's a talented musician and vocalist, he reminds us in a great number. It's a large cast and every member of it is talented.

Erik D. Diaz's scenic design works so well that whether the action is inside a wedding hall with strings of light, outside by a dumpster against a brick wall, in grandma's basement, or in a bridal shop, the locale is noted with clarity and distinction.

This show is essentially flawless. It's a romp of a romance liberally laced with upbeat made-for-summer song and dance.
