A Funny Thing Happening in Sharon
Hold on to your togas, Pseudolus is on the loose. More of an impish Buddy Hackett than a Roman slave, more of a spark plug for a Maserati than a two-wheeled Roman chariot, Omri Schein is a force to be reckoned with.
Playing the lead role in Stephen Sondheim's "A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum" at TriArts Sharon Playhouse, Schein ranks as one of the all time best Pseudoli. A power-packed dynamo, he has enough energy to carry the whole show. He's got a wildly talented and wound-up cast pulling the punches right alongside him.
Directed by John Simpkins, this production is masterfully timed to perfection. That's what makes the story of Pseudolus, the slave who will do anything for his freedom, so funny. Whether two characters are back to back and making identical gestures at precisely the same moment or three virgin brides dressed in identical outfits circle about unaware of each other, this kind of comedy defines "split-second action" and "hilarious."— To read the entire review.

A Triumph At TriArts by Leon Graham
TriArts’ first production of Stephen Sondheim’s “A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum is fast, rollicking fun.
Actually it’s a triumph.
The show, based on a group of farces written by the Roman playwright Plautus 2,200 years ago, is true to its origins: lots of puns, slammed doors, disguises, mistaken identities, satire and the kind of class comment that eventually led to the English and French farces you may have studied in school.
But it’s hard to stage. A large cast must act, sing and race about the stage with split-second timing or the confection falls like a draft-afflicted souffle. John Simpkins, a New York Music Theater professor, directs here for the first time and keeps everything and everyone quick and crisp. His work is absolutely first rate. And he has a terrific cast of young, talented actors to work with. — to read the complete review.

Dan’s Diary in www.ruralintelligence.com, the online magazine for Eastern New York, Northwest Connecticut, and the Southern Berkshires had this to say: "Nathan Lane, the Broadway star, apparently has a doppelgänger named Omri Schein, and he is starring in TriArts’ exhilarating production of Stephen Sondheim’s A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum." — to read Dan’s review.

YOUTHEATRE
Yes, folks, it’s raining again, but inside TriArts’ Youtheatre program it’s all sunshine and smiles. The kids in this week’s Theatre Rocks workshop are developing their performance skills through scenes, song and dance from Mamma Mia, Shreck, Billy Elliot, West Side Story, Hair, and more. But don’t fret, there’s still space in some upcoming workshops. Check out www.triarts.net and give us a call.
