TriArts Executive Director Alice Bemand said she is thrilled with the performances Heather Holohan is able to coax from 24 children in just three weeks of rehearsal. "You really can't overstate the importance of the arts in the lives of our children," she said. "It's not about turning kids into Broadway stars, but rather about seeing personal growth and increased self-confidence."

Holohan, who played Linda in TriArts' The Wedding Singer, to great critical acclaim, recently appeared in the national touring company of Thank You Gregory, and owns The Studio for Dance and Theatre Arts in Amenia, is directing and choreographing Alice in Wonderland Jr.

Castaway Players founder Henry Staats, who has been performing on the TriArts stage since he was as young as some of the campers, is Heather’s assistant. Artistic Director Michael Berkeley assists with vocal coaching.

A typical day at camp includes circle time, physical, and vocal warm-ups, blocking and rehearsing, and some theatre games. The cast will attend a performance of Oklahoma! as a group and meet the actors after the show for a talk-back.

"I really hope the children gain an understanding of the dedication it takes to put on a monster of a show, such as Alice in Wonderland, which has a large selection of songs," Staats said. TriArts presents Disney’s Alice in Wonderland, Jr. on Saturday, August 14 at 11:00 a.m. Admission is free, although TriArts will gladly accept donations to its summer theatre scholarship program, and seating is unreserved. The theatre will open at 10:45 a.m.
