The Music Man…a Refresher
Harold Hill "checks out" Marian the librarian

Most of you are familiar with the story of The Music Man, but here’s a refresher:
Traveling salesman Harold Hill comes to River City, Iowa selling band uniforms and instruments under the pretext of teaching the local children to play said instruments. Hill knows nothing about music but touts the “think system” and plans to blow town as soon as the uniforms and instruments are paid for. But he meets up with the town librarian, Marian, and sees a challenge in her uptight demeanor. Will he win over Marian? Will Marion change Hill’s con man ways? Will the torch-bearing townspeople track down Hill? Will the River City youngsters march down Main Street in their uniforms playing?
You’ll just have to come to TriArts and see!
Remembering Gordon Heyworth
this Sunday, August 9 at 3:30 PM
Gordon Heyworth, invaluable to TriArts as a Board member, teacher, administrator, actor, and theatre lover, passed away in December 2008 at the age of 76. When TriArts moved from Pine Plains to the Sharon Playhouse in 1999, Gordon, serving as General Manager, worked tirelessly to help ease us into our new home. Since then, he continued contributing to TriArts in a variety of ways, including inspiring actors with his acting workshops and performing in many productions. He was quite the trouper with a wonderful sense of humor. (When asked by Michael Berkeley to play the role of Mother Burnside in MAME, he accepted without hesitation and was hysterical!) Gordon will always be a loved member of the TriArts family.
This Sunday Gordon’s son Gregory and his family will dedicate a bench in Gordon’s memory, to sit under a tree outside the theatre. Please join us at 3:30 to share a story as we memorialize this wonderful man and remember his contributions to theatre in general, and TriArts in particular. Please drop us a line at info@triarts.net and let us know if you will be attending.
Playhouse Stomp is Coming August 11th
It’s time for your kids to face the music…live music that is, with the introduction of the Playhouse Stomp on Tuesday, August 11 at 7pm on the main stage.
The Playhouse Stomp, is a brand new concert added to the TriArts calendar, with the best of the area college bands ready to rock the house.
Alice Bemand, Executive Director, said “TriArts serves a wide age-range with our show selections and Big Band concert; however we felt there was a gap for teens and college aged kids who don’t have many opportunities to listen to live music.” The Playhouse Stomp will fill that hole, with three bands performing at the Sharon Playhouse.
