The critics continue to rave about The Music Man
No wonder the 19th is Sold Out, as was the 12th – Call now so you don't hear "Sold Out!"
"The cast excels in high-spirited routines … A smooth-as-silk barbershop quartet … Sets catch the warmth and simplicity of small-town life … Costumes are spanking bright … Swift pace for the action … Engaging and snappy performances" — From the News-Times
High-spirited 'Music Man' in Sharon

Although the Housatonic River is a few miles away, it may not be too much of a stretch to consider Sharon as a "River City," especially since Meredith Wilson's "The Music Man," set in River City, Iowa, fits so snugly on the stage of the TriArts Sharon Playhouse.
Wilson's 1957 prize-winning musical, clearly an ode to Americana, has always seemed something like an all-day picnic. For those who might suspect it of being too bucolic and soda-shop sweet, it is, in fact, simply sunny and optimistic, in spite of what starts off with disquiet among the natives.
The kids of River City lack purpose, the town needs an identity, and the desperate housewives yearn for the chance to dance like Isadora Duncan. Along comes "Professor" Harold Hill (Gavin Lodge) to fan their dreams while pocketing their cash.

Hill is a con man with a time-tested scheme for fleecing unsuspecting country folk, to sell them on the need and advantages of a boys' band, collect money for uniforms and band instruments, and then skip town before anyone notices the kids don't know how to play.
Lodge, who has the boyish charm of a Gower Champion, easily hoodwinks most of the town's citizenry, with the exception of Marian Patroo (Allison Berry), the attractive but unmarried librarian who suspects Hill is up to no good from the start.
