Divas Do (More) Broadway!

The final summer production at TriArts Sharon Playhouse, Divas Do More Broadway! will be presented this weekend! The Diva production has become an annual favorite that was created eleven years ago by Artistic Director Michael Berkeley who was looking for a way to feature the abundant female talent in the area.

"We simply did not have enough parts in our season to go around and that meant leaving out a lot of talented women. I decided to create a show that would feature all this talent in one production."  So began the Diva series. The first show was billed as Night of A 100 Divas.  It was so popular that it became an annual staple, followed by 2001: A Diva Odyssey, Divas Do Hollywood, Divas Do the Sixties, Divas Do Divas, and more.

Divas Do (More) Broadway will build upon Divas Do Broadway, originally presented in 2005, by bringing more Broadway songs to the stage, incorporating new songs, old songs and even some songs that were cut from the original Broadway production. A fast-paced revue style show, it features music, comedy and dance.

Executive Director Alice Bemand said: "This is always an eagerly anticipated show because of the many talented women it features and because it is unique to TriArts. As part of TriArts commitment to mentoring our staff, we give our technical interns a chance to step up and design sets, costumes and lighting under the watchful eye of Erik Diaz, our Production Director. Thanks to this valuable experience they can add a professional design credit to their portfolio.”

Actresses returning to the stage are Heather Holohan, who played Linda in The Wedding Singer to great acclaim, as well as Diane Schnoor and Lori Belter, both of whom were last-minute replacements for Angie in the same show; Glenda Lauten (Aunt Eller) and Aubrey Flick  (Ado Annie)were seen in Oklahoma; and Chloe Golden played Olive in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee.

Sponsors for Divas Do (More) Broadway are The Interlaken Inn and WHDD/1020AM radio. The show runs for one weekend only, Aug. 27th (8pm), 28th (8pm) and 29th (5pm). Divas don’t do matinees! Tickets are $30 standard and $45 premium (front and center). They go fast and this is a production you won’t want to miss.
