TriArts Sharon Playhouse is pleased to announce a special benefit performance of A.R. Gurney’s “Love Letters” at the Bok Gallery at TriArts over Thanksgiving Weekend. Edward Herrmann and his wife Star Herrmann will star in this poignant two-person play.
Mr. Herrmann performed in the show on Broadway in 1989, where he was paired with Jane Curtin. The play centers on the two characters, sitting side by side and reading the notes, letters and cards that have passed between them throughout their separated lives and over a 50 year period. The Pulitzer Prize nominated drama explores their hopes and ambitions, dreams and disappointments, victories and defeats.
Edward Herrmann, long considered “an actor’s actor”, due to a prolific career on stage and screen has been seen as FDR in Eleanor and Franklin, Richard Gilmore in the Gilmore Girls, and numerous movies including The Purple Rose of Cairo, The Lost Boys, Annie, The Great Gatsby among many others. In addition to Love Letters, Broadway credits include Plenty and The Philadelphia Story. His voice is heard regularly on the History Channel. Star Herman, a 35 year veteran of stage, TV, film, commercials and voice-over, most recently performed at the Music Hall Center in Ancestral Voices with Elaine Stritch. If you were lucky, you caught her hilarious performance in Divas Do It All, singing “The Grass Is Always Greener”.
Robert Motherwell lithograph donated by Kenneth and Marabeth Tyler
Art world luster has been added to upcoming benefit performance, thanks to the generosity of Kenneth and Marabeth Tyler. After agreeing to host a reception with the Herrmanns at their home in Sharon, they added to the intrigue of the evening by donating a limited edition, handmade, hand-colored lithograph by Robert Motherwell. Their home features an extraordinary and extensive art collection, and at the close of the reception one lucky person will walk out with “Hollow Man’s Cave”, housed in a museum-quality white gold leaf frame and currently valued at $8,500.
Kenneth Tyler, a prominent figure in the American post-war revival of fine art printmaking is a printer/publisher and arts educator. From 1974-2004 he ran Tyler Graphics Ltd., which included a gallery space, paper mill, and facilities for all fine art printmaking media. You can visit www.nga.gov.au/tyler to see his vast archive collection which showcases Mr. Tyler’s collaborations with David Hockney, Jasper Johns, Joan Mitchell, Robert Motherwell, James Rosenquist, Frank Stella and Andy Warhol, to name a few.
"Hollow Man's Cave" can be viewed at the White Gallery, 342 Main Street in Lakeville, CT.

Paris 1959. Three WWI soldiers are passing the time on an isolated terrace. The combination of Stoppard's rapier wit and dazzling use of language and the poignancy of these old vets nearing the end of their lives provides a mix of comic curmudgeonry, camaraderie and nostalgia.
Doors open at 7:00 for wine and refreshments. The staged readings will begin at 7:30 with a discussion to follow. For more information and directions, visit www.aglettheatre.net.
